Julie Martin, RN, CHPN (Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse), at Samaritan Care Hospice of Florida, recently made the commitment to achieve a higher level of expertise in the delivery of care for hospice patients. Ms. Martin, who serves as an RN case manager at Samaritan, has met the requirements and passed the examination to earn her CHPN credential through the National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses (NBCHPN®) organization.
The certification validates a nurse’s competence and knowledge in the specialized area of hospice and palliative care, according to the NBCHPN. The highly-valued certification provides formal recognition of having achieved a standard of knowledge in the specialty. The certification examination for hospice and palliative nurses is accredited by the American Board of Nursing Specialties.
A nursing professional with more than 20 years of healthcare experience, Ms. Martin joined the Samaritan Care Hospice of Florida team in March 2011. Although her nursing career has provided her with opportunities to serve in a number of nursing fields in a variety of roles, she found her calling when she began providing care to hospice patients.
“As soon as I started working in the hospice profession, I knew that this is where I wanted to be,” said Ms. Martin. “It has become my passion to be part of the team that delivers care for hospice patients and their families during their time of need—providing comfort as the journey of life is completed.”
Ms. Martin earned an AS degree in nursing from Excelsior College and is licensed in the state of Florida as a registered nurse.
“Julie’s commitment to excellence in providing hospice care is exemplary and coincides with Samaritan’s mission to deliver high quality hospice and palliative care services to patients and families,” said Eva Sylvester, Executive Director, Samaritan Care Hospice of Florida. “Her commitment to achieve excellence in end-of-life care is worthy of praise.”
